When Healthy Eating Begins

When Healthy Eating Begins Adult women (18 and older) who say they have healthy eating habits say they began to watch what they eat...

Percentages of women who are “trying hard to eat right”
Specific nutritional habits and practices - Under 40 Over 40
Eat foods low in saturated fat 49% 64%
Eat foods low in total fat 47% 61%
Eat foods low in calories 38% 47%
Avoid too many fattening foods 54% 63%
Avoid eating too many high cholesterol foods 44% 59%
Eat less 31% 40%

The Bottom Line:

Women over the age of 40 are more conscious of their fat intake than those under 40.

Women 40 years and over are more likely to practice healthy eating habits, such as eating margarin and using skim milk and other low-fat foods, every day.

Barriers to healthy eating include confusion about what foods to eat and self-discipline problems.
